Using Headphone Recorder, I recorded the sounds of my surrounding environment while walking through New York City listening to music on my headphones. This recording was run through MaxMSP to analyze and condense peak frequency ranges, and reveal rhythmic patterns of traffic, wind, birds and people as well as my own walking pace and breathing. The audio patterns from this project are animated in a 30 minute video of lines rotating in 3 separate circles, each representing the high, middle and low frequency ranges. What is visualized are the rhythms of everyday surround sound. |
